La Bison Caravan est un projet artistique nomade qui réuni à
Marseille près de 200 œuvres sur le thème symbolique du Bison. Plus de 120
artistes internationaux ont répondu à l’initiative d’Hilarius Hofstede,
d’Herbie Hancock et d’Alfons Alt en faisant don d’au moins
un "bison" original.
Cette collection d’œuvres a été exposée au Danemark et partira en Hollande
enrichie d’une cinquantaine de contributions marseillaises supplémentaires.
L’intégralité de la Bison Caravan est présentée à la Friche la Belle de
Mai dans un immense espace plongé dans l'obscurité. La scénographie de
l'exposition, façonnée par les lumières portées par les visiteurs, joue sur
la révélation des œuvres, comme les torches révélaient les figurations
rupestres des bisons du paléolithique.

Bison Caravan took off in Denmark in 2003 with the idea to start a herd of artworks, all representing the bison. It continued to France and recently Holland with group shows that
somehow celebrated creativity, equality and unity of people. By now 300 artists from 18 different countries have donated works and the herd keeps growing in many directions. Without
being stressed by tour dates or schemes we will continue to progress in nomadic fashion, hopefully uniting artists of all continents on our way. As a testimony of universal spirit, Bison
Caravan should become a collective donation to a place in the world where such a gesture would stimulate its cultural life. Welcome to the Bison Caravan.
Bison Caravan was conceived and initiated by Hilarius
Hofstede in Denmark. The bison and other paleolithica
had previously been put forward in the magazine Paleo
Psycho Pop started by Patrick Healy and Hofstede in
Dublin 1996. Alfons Alt initiated Bison Caravan in
France.
